It has been my privilege to serve on the School Board, District for the past 4 years.
My focus has been, and will continue to be, to ensure a quality education for every student and not just pay lip service to that idea. Serving on the board involves making decisions about highly contentious issues. I’ve been vigilant in bringing to public attention the closed bureaucratic practices of the school system. My record shows I ask questions, do research, and involve all interested parties. I am committed to opening up decision-making so it can be as democratic as possible and include all voices.
Some of our major problems are: crowded classrooms, disproportionate and inequitable outcomes for many students of color and low income students, environmentally compromised schools, the serious consequences of the WASL exit exam, and inadequate state funding.
I look forward to continuing my service and working on those issue that are vital to providing our children with a quality education.
